Troop 1 Rifle Shoot

November 2: Rifle Shoot at Durland Reservation

November second was a fine day for rifle shooting. On that saturday, troop one Katonah traveled to Durland scout reservation, an area that scouts attend to the Order of the Arrow Ordeal. Once arriving, the scouts and adults consulted staff at Durland and set up for shooting. The attendants were both Jack and Chris Kristensen, Thor and Tom Adamec, Robert Baur and his father Tom, Sean Bacon, and Elias and Robert Chaiken. After shooting a multitude of targets, the group then decided to initiate a competition of who had the best shot. Keeping score and raising the total points needed to go on, everyone shot very well but the one man who defeated all the others was none other than Chris Kristensen himself. After the competition was won, the group shot recreationally once again for another hour or so, the group packed up with assistance from the staff and left for either home or the elementary school.

Troop 1 Hike on October 12: Mianus River Gorge

Instead of hiking at Turkey Mountain, we will be hiking in the Mianus River Gorge on 10/12/13. We will meet at KES at 12:45 PM so we can leave by 1:00 PM. Dress appropriately for the weather, wear boots, and bring water. Family and friends are welcome to join us. About the Mianus River Gorge: Located just outside of Bedford Village off of Long Ridge Road, the Mianus River Gorge, with over 1000 acres, will be celebrating it's 60th anniversary this year. Founded in 1953, it contains one of the last areas of old growth forest, the 400 year old Hemlocks that grow along the banks of the Mianus River.  This will be a spectacular event with the fall foliage in full swing, and hopefully good weather. For more details, visit the Mianus River Gorge web site . Contact Mr. Adamec with any questions.
