First meeting at KES

Our first meeting at Katonah Elementary School, where Troop 1 has been meeting since 1947. Several Scouts were moved up to Junior Staff (center) and new patrol leaders were named to lead the Swamp Chickens (left) and the Mad Monkeys (right). We checked out our troop's supply of tents, checked them all for parts and damage.

Campout, Plant Sale

Tonight's campout has been canceled, since only three Scouts were available to participate. However, we could use your help at our Troop's first fund raiser. Stop by Spring Hill Kennels (corner of Harris Road and Bedford Road in Katonah) on Saturday from 10-2 to help out with the Troop 1 Plant Sale. Please arrive in uniform. Please contact Scoutmaster Hank Tschorn if you have any questions. See you Saturday!

Demolition Derby Night!

On September 18th, Troop 1 Katonah took a trip to Middletown and entered the Orange County Fair Grounds to get good seats for the "Demolition Derby: Eve of Destruction." It was an action-packed night where racers from all over the region brought whatever wheeled vehicle they didn't mind being smashed to a million pieces and put them through the paces at the dirt track. There were several races and challenges during the night, each with a different theme. The first event was a "slingshot" race, which consisted of slingshot cars going 80 mph. Next, were the old cars that people put racing kits on, and they raced them while smashing each other up, trying to cross the finish line first. The endurance race was fun, and some cars limped to the finish line running only on their rims! Then next events that were based purely on destruction included: The trailer race (try to destroy the other persons trailer and save yours), the school bus race (40' yellow obstructi...
