Visit to Naugatuck Railroad

Railroad Campout Saturday, February 28 Leave KES at 8:00am This weekend, Troop 1 Katonah will be "working on the railroad" in Thomaston, Connecticut. The Naugatuck Railroad will be our host for the day, as we tour their facilities and learn about railroading, history, and preservation. We will be staying at the comfortable Mohawk Cabin at Camp Mattatuck , operated by Connecticut Rivers Council , BSA. The cabin is equipped with 15 bunks and a wood stove, which will be most welcome after spending our day on the railroad. Throughout the day, we will also be working on some requirements for the Railroading merit badge. We will depart Katonah Elementary School at 8:00am, and arrive at Camp Mattatuck a little after 9:00am. We will drop off our gear and head over to Thomaston station, where our tour guides will meet us at 10:00am. After a tour of the depot and the equipment on the display track, we will board our private train for a short trip to Thomaston Shop. At Thomaston Shop

Troop enjoys a night of exciting Army hockey!

Troop 1 Katonah enjoyed an exciting night of Division 1 college hockey on Saturday night at the United States Military Academy at West Point where the Army Black Knights took on the Tigers from Rochester Institute of Technology . The two teams had met the previous night, where the Tigers came from behind to win 3-2. On Saturday night, both teams skated hard and fought for the puck, keeping each other at bay until the second period. The Tigers made the first score of the night only a minute and a half into the second period. Army tied the game about a minute into the third period, and the two teams remained locked throughout the rest of the contest. Our Scouts cheered with the home crowd through three exciting periods. The Scouts enjoyed a little bit of "free hockey" as the two teams met in a five-minute overtime period. Both teams fought hard and had many scoring opportunities, but the game ended in a tie (the Atlantic Hockey League does not play to a shootout). Both teams

Troop Family Dinner

Thanks to all who attended the Troop Family Dinner! Nearly all of our families were able to attend, making for a very full house! Our Unit Commissioner Bob Quentin and Muscoot District Executive Zack Swierat presented the troop's Charter to Re Hegley, representing the Katonah Rotary Club, our chartering organization. Chris Kristensen gave a great presentation on summer camp at Camp Read and also collected pledge cards for the Friends of Scouting campaign. Thanks to Mary Tschorn and her small army of helpers who served up a fantastic turkey dinner with all the trimmings. Scoutmaster Hank Tschorn along with the Assistant Scoutmasters handed out rank advancement and merit badges. New membership cards were issues to all Scouts and Committee members, including a special uniform insignia comemmorating our 90th year as a troop. Photos coming soon! Remember there is no meeting on February 19 since schools are closed for holiday, but don't forget our West Point Hockey trip is coming
