Katonah Memorial Day Parade 2009

Memorial Day is a solemn occasion when we pay tribute to the men and women of the armed forces who gave their lives and made sacrifices to protect our nation and its freedoms. Our Troop is honored to participate in the parade marking the occasion in Katonah. Thanks to Mr. Bacon, here's some photos of Troop 1 Katonah marching in the Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 25. Participants also included the local Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Katonah Fire Department, as well as Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, and Girl Scouts. As an added bonus, all of our Scouts were wearing the new Katonah Troop 1 "90th Anniversary" neckerchief (this special neckerchief will be awarded to all adult leaders and all Scouts who have achieved the rank of First Class or above. New Scouts entering the Troop will earn their neckerchief upon achieving the rank of First Class). Neckerchiefs will also be available for purchase by collectors as a fundraiser to support the Troop.

Eagle Scouts visit Troop Meeting

Troop 1 Katonah was visited by four Eagle Scouts at our Thursday night meeting: David Tschorn, Mark Kane, Peter Kane, and David Kane. It was great to have them visit, and they helped our younger Scouts with the evening activities. We continued our camping gear inspection by taking all the tents from the last camping trip and setting them up in the gym. After we went through the tents and packed them up again, we turned to knot tying. Mark and Peter helped our younger Scouts learn their basic knots for Tenderfoot, while Dave Kand and some of the older boys helped clean out and reorganize some of our materials stored under the stage. Thanks to Robert Chaiken for these photos. It was a fun night, and we were glad to have our Eagles visit. Do you know a past member of our Troop who would like to visit some night? Please let us know ! The Mad Monkeys Patrol checks over their tent, making sure they have all the parts. The Swamp Chickens Patrol carefully unpacks their tents. Checking the te

Our Scouts "Boldy Go" to New Jersey and Return with First Prize

This past weekend Troop 1 Katonah went to Alpine Scout Camp in Alpine, New Jersey, for the annual Muscoot Spring Camporee. For this camporee the theme was science-fiction, mainly Star Trek. Troops from the district arrived Friday night and claimed one of the many campsites around the property. While it was raining hard in Katonah, by the time we got to New Jersey it had stopped. In the morning, troops were awakened and told to prepare for the big day ahead of them. Troops assembled on Bates Field for the opening ceremony, where our troop participated in the color guard. Once finished with that, troops were dismissed to the registry area. Once there, patrols had their model rockets (built beforehand) inspected, and were then sent to their assigned starting station run by Troop 371 Mahopac . Our patrol started out at the " SURFACE TEAM " station, which was a geology based activity We learned about different types of local rocks and went out to find a sample, bring it back, and
