April Reminders

MISSING TENT
As we prepare for the Spring Camporee MAY 4-6, there are a few things to keep in mind.  WE ARE STILL MISSING ONE TENT which will be needed for the camporee so PLEASE, have a look in your garages and cellars AND BRING IT IN TO THE NEXT MEETING!

Please also let me know via email if you are planning to attend the Muscoot Spring Camporee- I need to get an idea of how many boys and adults will be going when I fill out a pre-registration sheet!  We will be leaving KES on Friday, May 4 at 4:30 pm and will return on Sunday May 6 before noon (early departures are discouraged as it makes it harder for the rest of the patrol to perform as a team).  The boys each have a required equipment list.  Parents, please MAKE SURE YOUR SCOUT HAS ALL REQUIRED ITEMS and that his backpack has room for patrol food and event equipment!
PLANT ORDERS ARE DUE THIS THURSDAY
We have had very few orders come in so far for our troop fundraiser! This is a great way to earn money for the troop's activities AND to have a beautiful display of spring and summer color!  Talk to your friends, neighbors and relatives- even if you don't want/need plants, others might love them!!  We will also need a few volunteers to work the sales table in our driveway on Saturday, May 19 from 10-12 or so.  Let Mary Tschorn know if you're able to help

Our visit to the Campfire Club of America

On Thursday April 16, 2009, Troop 1 Katonah visited the Campfire Club of America at their private camp in Chappaqua, where we were taught about conservation and preservation of the world's wildlife. When we arrived, we were introduced to the two men in charge of the club. They told us a little bit about how the club was started back around the turn of the century. Among their famous charter members were Theodore Roosevelt, Ernest Thompson Seton (the first Chief Scout), William Hornaday . The Campfire Club treated us to an amazing dinner which consisted of homemade burgers, hot dogs, french fries, and some deserts. After dinner, we walked around the lodge and observed the different trophy animals that were displayed all over the club. One room was dedicated to North America which consisted of examples of many animals from across the continent. In the other room, there many examples of wildlife from Africa. It was pretty cool.
