Klondike Derby

The Boy Scout Klondike Derby is this Saturday, January 26th  at Putnam Vet Veterans Memorial Park (225 Gypsy Trail Road, Carmel, NY 10512). Our event will be held snow or shine.  Our hosting troop – Troop 1 Carmel has been busy preparing and doing the snow dance for over a year.
In final preparations we would like to confirm attendance of your Troop, number of sleds, number of scouts, number of adults leaders, and how many are planning to camp. If you could please e-mail or call  our event chair before Friday - Jim Schwenk Committeechair@carmel1.mytroop.us  or 914-760-5146.  All of this information will assist registration to go quickly and start our event on time. Annual Family Dinner - Feb. 7 Our family dinner will be held at the Katonah Presbyterian Church at 6:30 pm on Thursday, Feb. 7 (Snow date Feb. 9). The cost is $15.00 per person. Our visit to the Campfire Club of America

On Thursday April 16, 2009, Troop 1 Katonah visited the Campfire Club of America at their private camp in Chappaqua, where we were taught about conservation and preservation of the world's wildlife. When we arrived, we were introduced to the two men in charge of the club. They told us a little bit about how the club was started back around the turn of the century. Among their famous charter members were Theodore Roosevelt, Ernest Thompson Seton (the first Chief Scout), William Hornaday . The Campfire Club treated us to an amazing dinner which consisted of homemade burgers, hot dogs, french fries, and some deserts. After dinner, we walked around the lodge and observed the different trophy animals that were displayed all over the club. One room was dedicated to North America which consisted of examples of many animals from across the continent. In the other room, there many examples of wildlife from Africa. It was pretty cool.
