Troop 1 Katonah enjoyed an exciting night of Division 1 college hockey on Saturday night at the United States Military Academy at West Point where the Army Black Knights took on the Tigers from Rochester Institute of Technology. The two teams had met the previous night, where the Tigers came from behind to win 3-2. On Saturday night, both teams skated hard and fought for the puck, keeping each other at bay until the second period. The Tigers made the first score of the night only a minute and a half into the second period. Army tied the game about a minute into the third period, and the two teams remained locked throughout the rest of the contest. Our Scouts cheered with the home crowd through three exciting periods. The Scouts enjoyed a little bit of "free hockey" as the two teams met in a five-minute overtime period. Both teams fought hard and had many scoring opportunities, but the game ended in a tie (the Atlantic Hockey League does not play to a shootout). Both teams are trying to clinch playoff spots, and this would be RIT's first year to be eligable for post-season play. The Tigers are currently ranked 2nd in Atlantic Hockey, with Army following behind in 6th place. Twenty-eight Scouts and adult leaders from Troop 1 Katonah enjoyed the trip, and most likely we'll schedule another event like it next year. If you have an idea for a local sports outing (such as racing at Orange County Speedway or Hudson Valley Renegades baseball), let us know!
