Troop 1 Hike on October 12: Mianus River Gorge

Instead of hiking at Turkey Mountain, we will be hiking in the Mianus River Gorge on 10/12/13. We will meet at KES at 12:45 PM so we can leave by 1:00 PM. Dress appropriately for the weather, wear boots, and bring water. Family and friends are welcome to join us. About the Mianus River Gorge: Located just outside of Bedford Village off of Long Ridge Road, the Mianus River Gorge, with over 1000 acres, will be celebrating it's 60th anniversary this year. Founded in 1953, it contains one of the last areas of old growth forest, the 400 year old Hemlocks that grow along the banks of the Mianus River.  This will be a spectacular event with the fall foliage in full swing, and hopefully good weather. For more details, visit the Mianus River Gorge web site . Contact Mr. Adamec with any questions.

USS Intrepid trip postponed

Hello Troop 1 Katonah, I just checked the status of the USS Intrepid and it remains closed at this time. If per chance it does open in the next couple of weeks it will primarily only be the USS Intrepid, the Growler (submarine) and the Concorde that you will be able to view. The Space Shuttle Enterprise received some damage to its vertical tail fin during hurricane Sandy and will be repaired and reopen to the public when it is done. With that being said we are going to POSTPONE the USS Intrepid trip to a later date, perhaps in the late winter to early spring so we can also see the Space Shuttle Enterprise along with all of the other exciting aircrafts like the A-12 Blackbird. In lieu of this change of events we are going to go visit the Military Museum of Southern New England , located in Danbury Connecticut on December 15th. In the preservation of our Nations Military History the museums intention was to maintain the memory of the American Tank Destroyer Units of the second world war....
