Photos from June Court of Honor

Our Troop celebrated 90 years of Scout service at our Spring Court of Honor on June 18. We had many, many awards to hand out that evening. There were 17 Tenderfoot, 1 Star, and 2 Life rank advancements handed out. We also handed out many merit badge awards, and one Scout described the Eagle project he is about to embark upon. There were a few "surprises" at the end, including an unexpected token of appreciation from the parents to the Scoutmasters, a special "honor" for Hank's 40 years of service to the Troop as Scoutmaster, and an early birthday celebration for Otto. Jen Tschorn provided these photos...

News clippings, old photos, and other souvenirs of our ninety years of history were on display at our June Court of Honor. The yellow neckerchief is from a 1967 World Scout Conference in Kanderstag, Switzerland, where Doc Smith led 20 boys on a three-week tour of Europe. The merit badge sash is from Neal Pronay, and dates from the 1940s.

On the occasion of Hank's own 40th anniversary as Ass't Scoutmaster and now Scoutmaster, Otto "honors" the occasion with a special "award" patch.

Our visit to the Campfire Club of America

On Thursday April 16, 2009, Troop 1 Katonah visited the Campfire Club of America at their private camp in Chappaqua, where we were taught about conservation and preservation of the world's wildlife. When we arrived, we were introduced to the two men in charge of the club. They told us a little bit about how the club was started back around the turn of the century. Among their famous charter members were Theodore Roosevelt, Ernest Thompson Seton (the first Chief Scout), William Hornaday . The Campfire Club treated us to an amazing dinner which consisted of homemade burgers, hot dogs, french fries, and some deserts. After dinner, we walked around the lodge and observed the different trophy animals that were displayed all over the club. One room was dedicated to North America which consisted of examples of many animals from across the continent. In the other room, there many examples of wildlife from Africa. It was pretty cool. Who would have known there was that many animals in Afric
