Spring Camporee a Success!

We opened Thurday's meeting outside to take advantage of the nice weather.

Scoutmaster Hank Tschorn goes over what we need to do to get ready for tomorrow's campout. ASM Chris Kristensen looks on at left.

The Senior Patrol Leader dismisses the troop and brings everyone into the gym.

The troop falls in by patrol and gets ready to inspect our camping equipment.

Scoutmaster Hank Tschorn helps new Scouts catalog the contents of their tent.

All tents are opened up and inspected for damage.

We meet at the Katonah Elementary School parking lot on Friday afternoon to load up our gear.

This year's Spring Camporee had the Scouts start the event from Route 301 and hike about a mile and a half into camp.

The adults, on the other hand, had their own challenges to deal with!

Adventure time on Sunken Mine Road!

We set up our camp at Site 53 at Camp Durland (Clear Lake).

Everyone was glad to relax around the campfire on Saturday night.

Scoutmaster Hank Tschorn and ASM Chris Kristensen direct our efforts to break camp on a rainy Sunday morning.

We have returned from a successful outing at the 2011 Muscoot District Spring Camporee! Katonah Troop 1 placed third in the competition and second for campsite inspection! Way to go, Scouts! If you have troop equipment in your possession, please make sure it is cleaned and ready for return at Thurday's meeting. It is extremely important to air out the tents and dry them or else they will be destroyed and we will have to replace them at Scouts' expense.

A reminder that the 5/19 meeting will be held at St. Mary's School.

Register now for the Lehigh River Whitewater Rafting Trip! Only 15 participants registered for the 6/11 Rafting trip on the Lehigh River.  I think anyone who went last year would say that this was a very worthwhile trip and the boys overwhelmingly wanted to do this again.  The cost is $51 and please make out checks to me.  Another 15 spots are open, so please sign up quick.  We leave KES at 7:00 AM on Saturday 6/11 and return that evening.  Bag lunches are to be brought by each Scout, and some pocket money is a good idea too. Our visit to the Campfire Club of America

On Thursday April 16, 2009, Troop 1 Katonah visited the Campfire Club of America at their private camp in Chappaqua, where we were taught about conservation and preservation of the world's wildlife. When we arrived, we were introduced to the two men in charge of the club. They told us a little bit about how the club was started back around the turn of the century. Among their famous charter members were Theodore Roosevelt, Ernest Thompson Seton (the first Chief Scout), William Hornaday . The Campfire Club treated us to an amazing dinner which consisted of homemade burgers, hot dogs, french fries, and some deserts. After dinner, we walked around the lodge and observed the different trophy animals that were displayed all over the club. One room was dedicated to North America which consisted of examples of many animals from across the continent. In the other room, there many examples of wildlife from Africa. It was pretty cool. Who would have known there was that many animals in Afric
