Hello CAMPERS!

It is that time again where our Troop packs up and heads North to our Summer camping adventure at Camp Read! We have 20 boys and 5 fathers this year – another new high head count for Katonah Troop 1!

Just some reminders:

-We will be leaving KES at 8:30 AM on Sunday August 5 and returning at approximately 2PM on Saturday August 11.

-Please bring your Medical Form completed by a doctor with you that morning.  (adults too).  It is a very difficult form and not a last minute thing!

-Please look at your merit badge selections – Some have prerequisites that need to be
completed prior to camp or you will not be able to finish that badge.

-Parents: Please re-read the Parent’s Guide given to your boy during the school year.  Very important so that your son can have the best time possible.  If you do not have the Parent’s Guide, please visit our Council Website at www.wpcbsa.org and go to the Boy Scout Summer Camp section and you can download a Parent’s Guide and other good information.

-With 20 boys, drivers please use a vehicle that has as many seats as possible.  Mr. Suda will have his truck  a new one!) to take the gear.

If you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to call me at 917 939 5416.

Best to all!  And have a great summer!

Our visit to the Campfire Club of America

On Thursday April 16, 2009, Troop 1 Katonah visited the Campfire Club of America at their private camp in Chappaqua, where we were taught about conservation and preservation of the world's wildlife. When we arrived, we were introduced to the two men in charge of the club. They told us a little bit about how the club was started back around the turn of the century. Among their famous charter members were Theodore Roosevelt, Ernest Thompson Seton (the first Chief Scout), William Hornaday . The Campfire Club treated us to an amazing dinner which consisted of homemade burgers, hot dogs, french fries, and some deserts. After dinner, we walked around the lodge and observed the different trophy animals that were displayed all over the club. One room was dedicated to North America which consisted of examples of many animals from across the continent. In the other room, there many examples of wildlife from Africa. It was pretty cool. Who would have known there was that many animals in Afric
